On November 18, 2024, at around 2:30 a.m. an officer with the Littleton Police Department (LPD) observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed while on patrol. Out of an abundance of caution for citizen safety the officer did not pursue, but did notify neighboring jurisdictions of the vehicle’s direction of travel. At around 3:00 a.m. the same officer located the vehicle at the intersection of Belleview Avenue and Keenland Court and attempted to make a traffic stop.
A white, 35-year-old male party fled the vehicle on foot and as the officer began to pursue, the suspect fired several rounds at the officer. The officer returned fire, injuring the suspect.
Aid was rendered to the suspect on the scene by officers prior to him being transported to a local hospital by Denver Paramedics. A short time later the male succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The identity of the suspect will be released by the coroner’s office, pending notification of next of kin.
The female passenger who was in the vehicle was taken into custody and later arrested on several outstanding felony warrants unrelated to this incident.
The LPD officer is uninjured and per department policy, will be on paid administrative leave.
The 18th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) will be conducting the investigation, as is policy for any Officer Involved Shooting. This is an ongoing investigation, no additional information will be released at this time.
